I love overland exploration. Honestly, isn’t what owning a 4×4 is all about? Getting out in the wilds and camping with your friends and family? I thought the article I wrote about two young men traveling across America and back in two stock Willys Jeeps last year. The article about a family crossing Africa in their Land Rover in 1953 was even more inpressive. As was the “Pineapple Express” Willys from Brazil to Alaska. The Shank family travelled around the southwestern deserts with their Willys & teardrop trailer. Well, now we have another incredible early exploration article.
Roy Follows and Noel Dudgeon were fighting in Singapore for the British goverment. Instead of taking the airplane home like their fellow countrymen, they decided to drive a Willys MB army Jeep from Singapore back to Britain. Only 13,000 miles, of which half of it is desert. In February 1958, they started their journey of broken parts, running out of fuel, friendly and unfreindlyl enounters and the “holiday” of a lifetime. Fellows later went on to write a book, which is available in the UK from Amazon.
