Another great photo of a Willys Jeep working on the farm. Can anyone tell me what the things above the rear tire. Perhaps soft top bows? Via Vintage Military Trucks.com

    The soft top bows were stored like that on the sides of CJ-2A’s 1945-1949 (ish). I like those tires.

    what you are looking at are the top bows…..they are the period correct top hardware for the CJ2A….however what is in the photo is an M38 military jeep…note the indents for the shovel and axe under the driver’s seat….also note that on the civilian version the bow top containers were higher in the rear than in the front….it appears that this was an EARLY M38 sold for civilian use to promote sales….also note that lack of the fuel tank filler neck under the driver’s seat…..makes one wonder if this wasn’t an early photoshop picture
