The Leadfoot monster truck was based on a 1977 Chevrolet El Camino. Owned and driven by Ron Dennis of Flagstaff, AZ. We do not know much about it, other than it was powered by a 600hp 425 Chevrolet engine that was coupled to a Turbo 400 transmission. The engine was later upgraded to a 468ci on alcohol. The 2 1/2 ton transfer case and 5 ton Rockwell axles were standard monster truck material, as was the 66″ tall tires. Photo via Monster Mayhem.

My father-in-law built the motors and transmissions for Leadfoot. If you would like I can find out 100% what it was powered by. I also know what happened to Leadfoot if you are interested.

I might know what happened to Leadfoot. There was a white, late 1970s Chevrolet El Camino monster truck with similar-looking wheels that was parked for many years in the parking lot near a repair shop in Mancelona, Michigan, about a block and a half from the Sherman tank near the traffic light. We used to see it when we’d drive to my grandparents’ house in Kalkaska from our home in Petoskey. We even stopped and got our picture near it once, but sadly, the photo didn’t come out. It was there from about 1995-2005. I remember it disappeared shortly around the time I started college.
