1977 K5 Blazer Chalet

I recently spotted this 1977 K5 Blazer Chalet at Ghetto Choppers in Oceanside California for sale. It looks like it’s in great condition and only has 40k miles on it. Less than 1800 of these Chalet’s were built.

Details:
4wd, 400cu, 400 trans, posi, factory winch, factory air compressor, 2 burner stove, sink, toilet, internet, plasma TV, theater sound system, sleeps 4 adults, and much more… Asking $21,900.

Mighty optimistic sale price. An educated guess says the seller’s price is based on the Nov 2011 eBay sale of Chalet #1385 (seen here, 2nd row http://www.usedcarsfsbo.com/asp/UsedCarsPrices.asp?SubmitFlag=1&Year=1977&Make=Chevrolet&Model=Blazer ), but I printed out the bid history of that particular one. The winning bidder was the only bidder past the $10 grand point, taking it up to its reserve price. Change the above url’s date to 1976 and it is seen that Chalet #0023 sold for just $12 grand this past November, and is the highest private sale price I’m aware of other than the one for #1385.

I’d respectfully submit that the modifications done to this one – winch, air compressor, TV, stereo, toilet, and other bits – along with its missing camper stripes, actually hurts the collector value in a significant way. If other Chalets much closer to original dealer showroom condition can be bought in the $10 – $14 grand range, or lesser priced ones needing restoration will result in an investment of about the same range of money, then this one faces an uphill struggle to attract a buyer at its current price.

Thanks for all the info Russell. I’m not sure how flexible the owner of this one is but if anyone is interested I’m sure they can call and find out. Your site looks like it has allot of pictures and info about Chalet’s. Maybe I can make a post about it sometime linking to your site.

Curtis – As distracted as I am with the various things I do, I only briefly wondered what Wes Kibble would be doing in Oceanside… but I was impressed with the new look of the site, then I went off attending to other things. I hadn’t caught it until just a short time ago that you are now running the site. Congrats!

Somewhat similar situation at my blazerchalet.com which has nearly all decade-old content written by the prior owner, but he ultimately gave the site to me since I was becoming more of a Chalet nut than he was. Except I haven’t yet found the time or money to upgrade my site beyond a couple of line updates.

Feel free to link to my site and mention that I’m the #2 moderator at the Yahoo Chalet forum owned by the old co-creator of my site: http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/ChevyK5BlazerChalets/

Yahoo forums are a bit primitive, but it is free to join, and we have 60+ owners of these who have lots of good info to share. If you don’t mind occasional delays in correspondence, I’d be glad to answer any questions about Blazer Chalets and GMC Jimmy Casa Grandes for any post(s) you care to write about ’em.
