I recently came across this post on G503.com.

My parents purchased a surplus GPW in 1963 for $500 and decided to take the jeep to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico in 1965. At that time the paved road stopped outside of Mazatlan so they towed the jeep there and then proceeded on. There is a large river (Ameca) just before PV that you had to cross, a bridge was not completed until 1966. The following sequence is a tribute to my parents zest for life and spirit of adventure.

Imagine a group of trucks towing Airstream trailers through the middle of Africa in 1959? 36 vehicles and over 100 people! There is a lot of really neat moments throughout the videos, such as the encounters with the Pigmy people that had never seen a balloon before. Does anyone have more information about this expedition?

Off Road Action reader Rod Hafner sent us this great photo of the Condor off road racing motorhome. He took the photo in the 1969 or 1970 Mint 400. I have seen a few photos of the Condor, but have very little information. This is probably the best photo that I have seen. Can any of you tell us about this oddity? According to this photo, Wes Thomas and Don Bass drove it. I assume that Condor sponsored it? What running gear did it use?

I love overland exploration. Honestly, isn’t what owning a 4×4 is all about? Getting out in the wilds and camping with your friends and family? I thought the article I wrote about two young men traveling across America and back in two stock Willys Jeeps last year. The article about a family crossing Africa in their Land Rover in 1953 was even more inpressive. As was the “Pineapple Express” Willys from Brazil to Alaska. The Shank family travelled around the southwestern deserts with their Willys & teardrop trailer. Well, now we have another incredible early exploration article.

Roy Follows and Noel Dudgeon were fighting in Singapore for the British goverment. Instead of taking the airplane home like their fellow countrymen, they decided to drive a Willys MB army Jeep from Singapore back to Britain. Only 13,000 miles, of which half of it is desert. In February 1958, they started their journey of broken parts, running out of fuel, friendly and unfreindlyl enounters and the “holiday” of a lifetime. Fellows later went on to write a book, which is available in the UK from Amazon. Credit should be givin to JPFreek Magazine and the Ewillys website for their information about this incredible journey.

Expedition Portal is one of my favourite websites. While I love off road racing, sometimes it is just nice to get into the outback and enjoy nature with friends and family. Expedition Portal is a great website that is based on a group of individuals from around the world that love to explore in their 4×4′s and on their motorbikes. Some of the members are travelling the world on a two year expedition, while others are trying to explore their local mountains with their family whenever possible. One thing they all share is a love for the outdoors and their vehicles of choice.

Recently, I posted a message in the forum about the recent camperized Ford Bronco articles we published here , here and here. Unknown to me, Four Wheel Campers is a member of the forum and Stan responded with some info about the FW campers used on Broncos, Blazers, and International Scouts. Basicly, Stan mentioned that they are no longer manufacturing the campers (which I knew) and that they would not build a custom one. It turns out that it is just not profitable for them. I can understand not manufacturing them if they do not make money like their current models do. It is too bad. I think it was a great concept!
