Icon, which already mastered the reincarnation of the Toyota FJ (better than Toyota, we will add) and Willy CJ, has its sights on a new project for 2011: the first-generation Bronco. Owner Jonathan Ward has worked with Camilo Pardo, designer of the Ford GT, on the design and even Nike has shown its support by providing key engineering, CAD math, and prototyping. We expect Icon’s interpretation of the Bronco to be finished in its proprietary tough-as-nails powder-coat finish and powered by a powerful V-8. According to a post on Icon’s Car Domain page by owner, the bronco will start with a custom mandrel bent 2×4 .180″ wall US Steel ladder frame. Suspension will consist of a riangulated four link in the rear while the front will use a three link with a panhard bar. All links will be tig welded with .50″ wall steel and use one ton Johnny Joints. The rear will also feature a tunable sway bar. They have teamed with Fox Racing for custom coilover shocks. The steering consists of Tom Lee Designed 3/4 ton arms and ends and a short, flat pitman arm.

The steering consists of Tom Lee Designed 3/4 ton arms and ends and a short, flat pitman arm. Sean Hyland Motorsports supplied the power steering pump solution, which uses a Lee remote reservoir.

Icon has partnered with Dynatrac for their axles with a ProRock high pinion Dana 60 in the rear and a ProRock Dana 44 in the front with Superior axles and Warn hubs. Brakes are by Stoptech, with six piston front private label CNC’ed calipers, four piston rears. The rotors are 15″ on the front and 14″ in the rear. Rounding out the braking components is a dedicated parking brake, all stainless steel plumbing and an ABS master cylinder, which requires no vacuum for power assist.

The engine is a 2011 Ford Coyote 5.0 V8 engine, which is currently found in the new Mustang GT. The 412 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque should make the Icon Bronco get up and go! Variable Camshaft Timing technology is also present for increased engine efficiency, bolstering overall fuel efficiency, which allows the vehicle a respectable 25 MPG average. Power and mileage? Sounds good to us!

Behind the engine is a Aisin Warner AX-15 five speed manual, followed by an Atlas transfer case and 3/4t driveshafts.

The Icon Bronco should debut this fall.
