Nissan Patrol 4W60

In 1950, the Japan government sent out a tender for Toyota, Mitsubishi and Nissan to build a “Jeep” like vehicle. In the end, Mitsubishi won by building an exact replica of the Willys Jeep CJ-3B. However, Nissan and Toyota liked their prototypes so much that they went on to mass produce them. This was the beginning of the infamous Toyota Land Cruiser and Nissan Patrol.

The Nissan Patrol 4W60 begin production in September 1951. The look was a little different in their prototype. In fact, it looked more like a Jeep than the prototype. However, it was larger in height, width and length. It also came with a 75 hp side valve 3760cc 6 cylinder engine, compared to the 60hp four cylinder found in the Willys. The 4W60 Nissan Patrol was in production until August 1955, when it was replaced by the 4W61 Nissan Patrol.
