There is a great old school thread >going on at DezertRangers.com . Members have posted a ton of old desert racing pictures and a lot of history lessons. The thread started out slow, but has picked up a lot of steam over the last few weeks.

I was one of dale sextons pit crew members , He bought Walker Evens Blue and yellow class 8. 1978 F150 shown in the first Photo . and have fond memories of going to Baja , Parker , the Mint etc , I worked at Mission Ford in Riverside , CA. from 79 to 82. when Larry Wilcox from C.h.i.p.s partnered with Dale . I used to be able to contact Larry and Dale but time has not been kind to us . hope to see more Photos of the truck and thanks for posting these great old photo’s of past race vehicles .. Eldon coats , retired and building personal pre runners in AZ …
Eldon, That’s awesome. Thanks for the comment. My friend Mark Newhan is almost finished restoring the class 8 for Steve Olliges who bought it a couple years ago.
Cant wait to so it Finished Curtis , Not a week goe’s by I dont think of working on and piting for those great class 8 superstucks , personally I think Off -Road racing is too high tech these days and it left us old timers dreaming of how we used to fix anything out in the dirt with a torch and big pipe wrench , LOL . I hope the family races like VORRA etc, dont fade away in my lifetime , still have the itch to hammer wood , and am working on building my 1982 F-150 4×4 short step into a cool little pre-runner . Stay safe and healthy everyone … Eldon coats , Paulden , AZ
