While the PPI prepared factory Toyota race trucks are often associated with Ivan “Ironman” Stewart, this one is driven by Frank “Butch” Arciero Jr. Any idea on what the light on the passengers windshield frame is for? I assume it is a light?

The red light was used for the chase/pit crews to identify the truck coming up the race course from a distance. There were 2 Toyota’s, both were originally built for class 7 but being sooo fast they decided to run class 1 and class 2 (single seat and 2 seat) against the buggies to go for the Overall win. Later, Toyota would pull the plug on the class 2 truck (Frank Arciero) and concentrate on Ivan Stewarts class 1 truck.

I was SCORE check point official for a few races in 1985,1986. In the 1986 Parker 400 on the Arizona side, Ivan was about the fith or sixth class 1 buggy through our check point. I think Toyota was running the 18RG 4 cylinder twin cam, and almost all those buggies were running Porche 911 motors. He was giving them a real run for the money. A truely awsome race vehicle, driver and team.
