I raced with Casey [ BITD ] a few times in the early 2000’s , Our second race was the Nevada 1000 , we built a “PURE” Full stock Ford Bronco for class 4100 , we got to tech and we were the only stock truck there , When I asked the tech guys about some of the trucks I looked over , they said if any of them beat you Casey would DQ them . Out of 14 trucks we ended up on the second day loseing a coil just 6 miles out of a pit , I was going to call the team and ask them to bring a new coil , but remembered Caseys rules on NO pitting outside of a pit , we were running 5th at the time [ 4 fords and a hummer ] , not wanting to be branded a cheater , we loaded up our homebuilt brand new 1978 Bronco and went home , one week later I called Casey to find out who won , and was told the First place truck got caught cheating and , with only 4 Fords eligable for the Ford payout , that would have put us in third place money. Never regreted my choice to leave the race , but wish I would have DQ’d us and kept racing for the seat time , Oh and we passed some great drivers in that race with our $35,000 Bronco . Casey was the Man , and understood Racers , . I was a Corner marshall a few times and had a blast talking with the Legend Casey Folks . . I know in my heart theres a baja Course in Heaven , No flat tires and you never run out of gas . Eldon Coats , Coats and Coats off road race team . # 4107 …
