In the 70’s Toyota created one off model trucks for sweepstakes prizes. There was a Yamahauler in 1974 and then again in 1979 with the new 4×4 pickup. The 1979 model had special paint and interior, roll bar, rear bumper and wheels and tires. The custom painted Yamaha motorcycles were part of the prize.
I also found this ad for a 1976 contest for a Toyota with a Hodaka motorcycle.
Wow Curtis, thanks for the walk down Memory Lane. I remember the 1979 Toyota Yamahauler Sweepstakes well and entered it as a 16 year old kid, of course I didn’t win…dang it! I wonder where that truck is today?
A friend of mine won this package. We were in high school and didn’t have a care in the world. He sold the motorcycles to pay the taxes on the truck. Unfortunately he proceeded to trash the truck. Didn’t take care of it, didn’t fix things when they broke. We would trade trucks occasionally (mine had a camper top) and every time I drove it, something else didn’t work. The fatal blow was a river crossing that went wrong and sunk the front of the truck to the top of the doors. I think he sold it for parts after that. Was a shame, it was a beautiful truck
