The Mighty Mite M422 was an all terrain vehicle that was seriously considered by the military as a replacement for the Jeep in the early 1950’s. The goal was to do the same things the Jeep did, but in a smaller and lighter package. With an aluminum V4 engine and aluminum body, the Mighty Mite M422 only weighed 1700lbs. Another unique feature was the four wheel independent suspension. While this video was taken in 1953, they were not mass produced until around 1960. Even then, there was only a little over 4000 units manufactured.
