I remember growing up watching the CHiPs TV show and seeing the episode with an off road race. Jon and Ponch drive to the Mojave Desert to race the Funeral Mountain Off Road Race in their class 3 truck. I recently came across this YouTube clip of the scene from season 3, episode 22 along with the full episode. Enjoy!

Interview with Larry Wilcox about racing the Frontier 500.
I was part of the pit crew for Larry Wilcox / Dale Sextons Class 8 team and was there for that Fronteer 500 race which started in Jean Nevada , And larry was right , the truck got bogged down in the silt so bad the truck timed out and never made it out of that area . Its 2026 and I’m retired from the Ford dealership that I worked at [ Mission Ford , Riverside CA. etc, etc. ] and am proud to have been part of those race’s . Larry was / is a super nise guy and I had been in touch with him and Dale up until a few years ago . I went on to build my own 1978 Bronco and race in VORRA / BITD/ SCORE from 2001-2008 . best time of my life . Eldon Coats Paulden , Arizona
