Ensenada, Baja, Mexico
May 2, 2026
Day 2 of NORRA’s Baja Rally kept the momentum rolling in Ensenada, with another full day of contingency followed by qualifying out at Rancho Nelson.
Contingency carried the same strong energy as opening day, with a steady flow of competitors bringing their machines through inspection, dialing in final details, and soaking in the atmosphere as the rally builds toward race day.
Out at Rancho Nelson, qualifying turned up the intensity on the tight 2 ½-mile course. It was Jake Jones who laid down the benchmark run, clocking a 02:26.16 to secure the top spot in the EVOLUTION 6100 class, edging out Brent Fox and Travis Williams.
But the headline moment came from Trey Hernquist, who shocked the field by posting the fastest overall time of the day of 02:25.32. Outrunning both the spec trucks and UTV classes in his Speed UTV entry. Driving for his father Bill Hernquist, Hernquist kept it simple and effective.
“We just kept it fast and smooth and it worked out for us,” said Hernquist. “I’m happy to be out front and even more so to be top qualifier of the day and beating the trucks!”
Capping off the day, Robby Gordon brought the energy back to the streets, treating fans in Ensenada to a full-throttle Stadium Super Truck demo right in front of the Riviera Cultural Center, a loud, smoky reminder that in Baja, the show never really stops.
With qualifying in the books and the field now set, the stage is officially built. The rally is ready to leave town and head into what Baja does best—long days, unpredictable terrain, and stories waiting to be written.
