San Felipe to Bahía de Los Ángeles
Ensenada, Baja, Mexico
May 4, 2026
Day 2 of the NORRA’s Baja 6 Day Rally pushed racers out of San Felipe and deep into the rugged, remote beauty of Bahía de Los Ángeles. A stage that delivered everything Baja is known for: rocks, rhythm, and a whole lot of strategy.
Tight, technical sections and rocky terrain kept drivers honest all day long, favoring those who could stay smooth, patient, and calculated. It was a day where finishing strong meant managing both the course and the unexpected.
Taking the win in Class 10, Lalo Laguna powered through adversity to keep his rally on track.
“NORRA didn’t disappoint! Even with some issues with the headers cracking we were able to weld them and stay in the race. It’s been an incredible experience with friends and family!”
In the UTV ranks, Wayne Matlock and Kristen Matlock continued their strong run, leaning into the terrain to their advantage and maintaining their overall UTV lead.
“I drove the first two specials and Wayne drove the third and final special today. The course was twisty and rocky making it very UTV friendly so I was able to get by a couple of the trucks that had started ahead before handing the car over to Wayne. His section was also tight and twisty enabling him to push us into 10th overall and maintain our 1st Overall UTV position. It’s still anyone’s race with 4 days of racing remaining though!”
Also putting together a strong performance on the day was Craig McCarthy, taking top honors in the highly competitive 6100 class.
As racers rolled into Bahía de Los Ángeles, the bivouac came to life. Teams wrenching under the fading light, swapping stories from the day, and getting ready for what’s next. A central tent brought everyone together with food, drinks, and a place to reset, turning the remote coastline into a shared home base for competitors, crews, and families alike. It’s that mix of hard racing and laid-back Baja nights that defines the NORRA experience.
As the sun set over the Sea of Cortez, racers were dusty, worn in, and already looking ahead. With four days still to go, the rally is far from decided.
In Baja, plans don’t always work… but the goal stays the same: keep moving forward.
